What Is There To Learn All About the New Cricut Gypsy?
What exactly is the Cricut Gypsy? This is what I get asked all the time, the gipsy is a handheld scrap booking design and cutting tool, also known as a design studio, and is better than you think because it does not have to be connected to a computer, to have layouts designed, although you can when you are ready to create the more advanced stuff.
I feel very lucky to have bought a Gypsy, and it arrived, dropped through my letter box (that’s just how small it is), and landed on my doorstep only last Thursday. It’s just great, it is lighter than light, that’s how I like to describe it, and I just love it! Pleased its very light as it is a handheld machine that will very rarely be leaving my hands, I love Scrap booking including all the other things that you can design and cut with it.
When it first arrived I immediately tried switching it on using the big silver button on the front of the Gypsy Cricut, but this is not the on off switch, which I was very relieved about had I read the manual first, I would of learned that the on/off switch is at the right hand side of the machine.
By the way, the manual does not come with the machine and can be found online, this can only be a good thing, as it saves on paper, and protects our trees.
I would advise on reading the manual from start to finish, most people won’t, most people don’t, if the latter is the case, then you cannot complain if something suddenly goes wrong.
Still intrigued as to how the Gypsy Cricut can help you? Well for starters, if you have problems with your eyesight then you will be pleased to know that with the Cricut, all images can be enlarged for all to see properly, read the manual fully as it explains in detail how to change the default sizes.
One thing that I can not stress enough here, and that is, make sure that you love your Gypsy a lot, and that there is no chance of you wanting a refund, because once you start linking to your cartridges, they are for that particular Gypsy only, because once you have started linking, your cartridges will never work in another Gypsy machine, so the key here is, Think before you link!! ( By the way, I’m not a poet).
I have also heard that once your Gypsy is linked, it can not be returned to the shop that sold it to you, not that you would want to do that of course, as I would never want to be without mine.
When you have some spare time, I would recommend sitting with your Gypsy Cricut, and check out all the cartridges that you don’t currently own, then when you have the money, or better still, when your birthday comes round, you will know exactly what to ask for.

Cricut Design Studio?
Has anyone used this software and if so, did you like it or not?
Yes I have it and anything I am going to cut out I layout in the Design Studio software. It lets you know the exact placement of what you are going to cut, which way it will be turned on the paper, how large it will be, etc. I waisted a lot of paper before buying the DS. Not to mention all of the wear on my blade and mat. In my opinion the DS is a must...I would invest in it even before buying another cartridge if I were you. DS lets you weld letters together from any of the font carts and you can weld items, shapes, letters, anything off of the carts--to make new items. These new images you create are called cut files and a lot of cricut owners share these online, just go to cricut.com and you will see a lot of people sharing their files. What you can do to see if you like it is go to the cricut web site and down load the free trial version. It will allow you to work with the carts that originally came with your machine, either George or Plantin Schoolbook and Accent Essentials. I did this for about a week and then I knew I had to buy it so I would be able to use it on all of my other carts. It is a very easy program to use but I recommend reading the instructions first---I didn't and about wanted to pull my hair out. After reading over the instructions it was a piece of cake. You will absolutely love it.
